Installation/performance at the Front Room art gallery in beautiful Brooklyn NYC. Mark Stilwell and I are creating an all out explosion of art zines sculptures and cities and sound. The Super Defense force will be there to defend us from those awful Titano beasts. Sure hope every single thing doesn't get destroyed during the epic battle for peace. The performance happens June 21st, so we have plenty of time to build all new costumes and environments to fill the space. See ya there freinds.

I really love the Oceanic and African wings at the Metropolitan Museum of art. Oh the South American too. This new mask has some of their influence. Paper mache, beads, mosaic tiles and tiny mirrors from a disco ball. Rubber bands are coming next.

This is a cartoon I made when I was in grade school . Its based on my comic characters Frank and Chuck. All I remember is using a huge super 8 camera and it taking forever.

At the end you can see me, Harold Pinkney and David Multer acting stupid. I guess it was a good childhood.

I asked for a free map from subway workers everyday for a few months to get the paper. I tried to make this book straight but it came out surreal. Can't be helped.

Paping soapbox derby's Hannakiki

The Hannakiki boasts a durable frame (its lasted three years) and super responsive steering (taken from thee finest garbage of the bronx). But probably its greatest innovation is its three bungee cord tension braking mechanism. No mere Flintstone breaking here! Oh and its middle weight capacities make it fast on the starting line push and heavy for the bottom of the hill momentum challenge. Now that the Hannakiki has lost its flimsy body (It was made from balsa wood) it is now ready for something much more dynamic that will certainly make the Hannakiki a contender next race season.

Monster Battle in Central Park

Gumbandor of the Super Defense Force faced another threat last Saturday in Central Park! The evil robotic reptile Daisy threatened peace loving citizens and had to be stopped. The battle was swift but deadly as the arm of Daisy was ripped from her very body! Now we can live in peace once more but rumor has it that more threats in the near future are on the rise. Lets hope the Super Defense Force can bring more peace through violence. Lets hope.

New art teaching year

Ready for another teaching season! This year I am teaching art to grades pre-K all the way up to 8th at three different schools in Manhattan and the Bronx. Have some new ideas for the kids this year including fashion design (a learning experience for all of us) and animation. Thanks to everyone who sent me project ideas. Feel free to send more. Fun facts about Shawn Cheng: Member of the art collective we call Partyka. Has more children than I do. Scored a 1600 on his SAT's. Makes art that his twelve year old self would love (and so do I). Brooklyn renegade craft fair was a bit misty and a ton of fun at the Partyka tent. LT drew portraits, Shawn bought his daughter a rabbit hat! June Happenings

Here is whats happening for the month of June. The 21st, 24th and 26th Gumbandor (me) will fight Roostaur as part of Mark Stilwell's installation/performance. If you love Godzilla movies and the theatre of violence, you will love this. Its happening at the Front Room art gallery in Brooklyn.

BabyCastles is a collective of brilliant folks who design their own video games and I will be creating a custom arcade cabinet for their arcade! It will be a rainbow woodcut masterpiece I tell ya.

I will start work on illustrating the "Puerto Rican War", a book about the attempted assassination of Eisenhower by the Puerto Rican independence party. About 100 illustrations to be exact. The book will be released next year.

My Music collective The Hungry Brothers are back after a short hiatus and are recording some new material. We will be playing shows again this summer.

Happy June Lets go back to Coney and ride that Cyclone again Lovesha!

The Paping Pinewood derby is all set to go on Sunday may 1st. We have about twenty racers competing! Mr. Andy Wilhelm has built a fantastic track. Mr. Justin Asher has designed motion sensor sounds to thrill us! It will be a fun race/art installation party. Races start at 3pm. Its at No Globe Exhibition Space 488 Morgan Ave. brooklyn NY. The Paping Pinewood Derby is growing and gathering more folks for the May 1st event. We have about a dozen artists including Sean McCarthy, Gabe Fowler, Chris Patch, Shawn Cheng, Zak Smith, Jeffrey Lazar, Andy Wilhelm, Matt Wiegle, Roger Peffley, Andy Bodor, Cy Admunson, Casey Farnum, and more! All are creating tiny gravity powered cars to race though our track. Man of sound Justin Asher will be proving the space with an audio onslaught. Hope you come out.
